What Makes Your State Great??

As a response to the DC 40 Prayer actions, a few of us on Facebook have created a group called "What Makes Your State Great?". We're asking everyone that is interested in protecting our freedoms and showing those that want to remove the first amendment from our great land, what we can offer in return.

We're asking our followers to come to our group, join in and tell us what you love about your state. What makes it a great place to live. The prayer vigils will be starting soon and I've posted an outline of their prayer dates as well as the office nicknames listed below.

We are not asking you to pray to a specific deity or to offer any type of offerings to anything you do not feel comfortable doing. We only ask for your positive energy and your support as we send out protection for those things that we all hold dear. Life Liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

On each day of the prayer vigil we'll be posting facts about each state and asking to have you, the readers post your thoughts comments, suggestions and prayers regarding your state.

Come on over and see us on Facebook. Share this page and all pages related with everyone you know. Keep in mind this particular group is a fringe group and everyone, our Christian brothers and sisters as well, should be very concerned about what this group is looking to do.

Here's the prayer schedule posted: (To view on the DC40.net page click here, then click the shields at the bottom of the page, you can have a look at the "NEW" nicknames planned for each state)

I have to thank you for putting this who DC-40 mess into terms normal people can understand and for keeping us updated! That is one good thing about the country as a whole is they have the freedom to pray for what they believe (however misdirected in my personal opinion) and we have the same rights to pray for, chant about, meditate on, and light candles for what we believe. That is freedom working at its best. I do hope that church and state remain separated and I also hope religion comes out of the elections too. I have noticed this year that seems to be a big thing they are using to sway voters. I think a presidential candidate should have to pass a test on all worldly religions because there is no way to be such a large diplomat and not know at least the basics of religious customs since other countries and places don't have such separations. This is the only part religion should play in politics. Wow I ranted LOL!

LOL! I love it Misty! You did a great rant! I agree completely, I don't care if you want to worship a bottle of dish soap, go for it, just don't assume that I have to do the same thing, and don't force my kids, my friends and family or my neighbors to have to do it just to get work, or get paid. It's not ok. Even if it's a really great dish soap! LOL Hope you'll come over and join our Group, What Makes Your State Great.

I'm concerned that this European image of a goddess named "Columbia" is an affront to the cultures of Native America and Africa given the history of Criminal Columbus and European settler-colonialism. How does an African or any indigenous person reconcile that with the larger need to support indigenous culture and spiritual traditions that have been destroyed and attacked by this country's "freedoms".

Know also that I'm in complete support of the resistance to the DC40 initiative. On that I am clear. And thank you for that.

Hi Mzee, I understand the position you present in your concern regarding the Goddess Columbia. I for one, do not have a specific image in mind when I think of the Goddess. To me the Goddess is everywhere. She is not a single image. I chose to use this particular representation of the Goddess because the NAR (folks behind DC40) have decided to attack her directly. They see Columbia (also called Lady Liberty) as a demonic idol. And that was their exact words. Demonizing the symbol of the United States is in a sense a direct attack on the United States. They are saying that this image is an idol that Americans are worshiping instead of worshiping their own "God".

In my posts for each of the states I've done my best to seek out information regarding the native peoples of each state and highlight their beliefs and add my voice to the call to protect the freedom that so many of us now enjoy, and so many lost their lives to ensure.

All of us now living in the United States and in some other parts of the world have benefited from the attacks made upon the native cultures of the world. There is no way to correct that, we cannot change that we have that benefit.

For now, we have to acknowledge that which was lost by the native peoples by ancestors and send out a positive healing flow of energy to them. Asking for strength and wisdom to move forward, bringing their knowledge and their spirit with us.

I live by the motto, take what you can use and leave the rest. Please take what you can use from my posts and share them widely. Give back any thoughts you have and I will do the same. I cannot correct the sins of my ancestors, I can only learn by them.

Thank you so much for your comment.

Thanks for the reply, but we can correct the sins of our Ancestors. We are their children. They were human, too. We can change the unequal benefit that "Americans" have continued to misappropriate. Pagan work can not be yet another expression of European abuse of indigenous peoples. Looking deeper into the history of "Columbia" and Criminal Columubus might help. Being empathetic to Native Americans and their needs and desires (since we are in their house) would help deeply. Passing of responsibility for fundamental change when we have powerful spiritual and social and political tools to do so is a cop-out and a disrespect to our indigenous Ancestors who knew better and gave their lives so WE could carry on their indigenous traditions, of which Paganism is but one thread.

We can correct what was done. We can change that we have these benefits.

This image of "Columbia" is still an affront to my sensibilities and spiritual harmony. You have to know that. Even if the DC40ers used her, that doesn't mean we have to resurrect an old, manifest destiny image of that energetic. Claiming impotence in this situation is not in keeping with spiritual integrity. We know ANYthing is possible in the world of Spirit...if we engage it seriously and honestly and bravely.

That's what we should expect from anyone....no less.

I'd love it if you could point me and others to more harmonious and supportive and current images of "Columbia" if they exist. I want to be able to support your work, but my Ancestors would rip me a new one if I didn't question this confusion.

And keep in mind, taking what they could and leaving the rest is exactly what the murderous settler-colonists and the USAmerican cavalry did to the Native Americans.

We can do better than this. And thank you for your comment.

May the Ancestors guide us toward clarity and blessed, loving unity.

Hi Again Mzee,

I respect and understand what you're saying.

We have created a group around sending positive energy out to combat the DC-40 group in a non religious context in a group on Facebook called "What Makes Your State Great" basically, we just post positive energy, pictures, memories and thoughts about each state as the DC 40 Group works it's way around the nation. You're welcome to check us out there if you'd like. http://www.facebook.com/groups/259527250754325/

Next, I really don't think you "have" to use the image of Columbia if you feel that it is something that your ancestors would frown upon. There are several images out there for Columbia. I chose this image as I'm involved with the Hail Columbia Project and that is the image that was chosen by our group. http://hailcolumbia.us

On my altar however, I have a liberty dollar and the first amendment written in a scroll to represent that which I believe is under attack by the DC 40 Initiative. That being our first amendment freedoms.

Here's a link to Google search results for "Goddess Columbia" http://bit.ly/nj0r5v You could try to see if something there would fit into your rites.

As to the sins of our fathers, what I meant by that was that everyone alive today has received some benefit that came from the suppression of another group of people. When one civilization reigns another one falls to serve them. I can only send out positive energy and hope that others are able to use that energy. Through that sharing I can grow with them.

I hope that you're able to get something useful out of the information I've provided.

Thanks so much for your comment and I look forward to hearing more from you.

Sosanna,
I appreciate the info on Columbia and have seen much of it already. I am not unclear on what Columbia is and I have become clear on how many pagans hold her as a spiritual entity. I can't seem to find anyone, save for a few close friends, who can look at their connection to Columbia and the presence of the United States of America with a critical eye, without seeing it all from within the narrow confines of "Americanity", a concept that still disrespects and oppresses the indigenous people of Turtle Island. The ultimate challenge here is to decolonize our minds and the land. Saving the USAmerica is not the key question here, because we know justice and spiritual integrity are larger concepts than the oppressive nature of the USAmerica. It seems decolonization and support of indigeny is still problematic and rife with resistance, even in pagan communities. The filter of monotheism, white supremacy and patriarchy is very alive with regard to these issues. Because DC40 attacks something doesn't automatically mean we must defend it. That's reactionary and misguided. Paganism can not be a rehashing of European imperialistic, colonial mythology (e.g., Columbia/Manifest Destiny/Lady "liberty" - liberty for who?!) or it will fall with the crumbling walls of capitalism and white privilege.

It is truly positive and liberating, grounding to acknowledge the presence and lives of indigenous peoples in the states and regions in what we call the USAmerica. That's on the right path, but it seems to be a conflict of statements when one also supports a European female spirit in red, white and blue bloomers. I hope we can all see the deep contradiction here. But we all move forward...as we must and will.

May we all be guided correctly on our paths to the oneness that can only be seen from the indigenous relationship to earth and human community.

Peace,
Mzee Ukumbwa

Hi Mzee, I don't know of many groups that specifically worship Colubmia/Liberty. My understanding is that this particular goddess was selected because of the DC-40's claims that she was a demonic idol and therefore it was decided to defend her. Personally I do not "name" my Goddess, more so it's nature and earth and spirit and energy. This particular movement was around the fact that DC-40 specifically sought out to attack the 50 states and change their names in an attempt to remove the first amendment rights from the citizens of the US. Basically changing the country to a "Christian" nation with "Christian" laws.

Through out this event I have done my best to reach out to and respect the native people of this country with information on the tribes and historic documentation as I can find it.

I have accepted that I cannot please everyone and have done what I can do, with the best intentions. I have sent out positive energy and tried to supply a history lesson along with it. Hopefully I have done it justice.

Thank you for your comment.
